NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - The Charleston Veterans Affairs Medical Center is joining other groups in a program to help homeless veterans.

The 16th annual Veterans Stand Down Against Homelessness is being held in North Charleston on Friday.

The event provides medical screenings and assistance as well as everything from clothing, food and haircuts to legal counseling for hundreds of homeless vets.

VA officials will be on hand to discuss concerns from the vets, who will also be able to meet with potential employers.

The event is being held in partnership with Goodwill Industries of Lower South Carolina and Palmetto Warrior Connection.
