FORT GIBSON, Okla. (AP) - A Cherokee County deputy shot and killed a man who confronted officers with a knife after allegedly stabbing patients at a drug rehabilitation center near Fort Gibson.

Undersheriff Jason Chennault told reporters the man stabbed four patients Friday night at Faith Based Therapeutic Community Corporation, then tried to hide when deputies arrived. Chennault said deputies found him in an outbuilding and a deputy shot him when he refused to drop the knife.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No names have been released and it wasn’t immediately released whether the dead man was a patient at the center.

Chennault said three stabbing victims were hospitalized in undisclosed condition and the fourth was treated at the scene.

Chennault said the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation will investigate the shooting.
