BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A group says dozens of people from across the state are donating money that will go toward the construction of a new $5 million home for North Dakota’s first family.

A committee is seeking to raise $1 million in private donations for the new governor’s residence.

Fundraising co-chairman Jim Poolman tells the Bismarck Tribune (https://bit.ly/1kinEpD ) that more $10,000 has been raised from more than 30 private contributions. He says the donations are ranging from $10 to $1,000.

Poolman says at least three potential major donations are close to being secured.

The Legislature in April approved construction of a new governor’s home, stipulating that 20 percent of its cost must be funded by private donations.

Construction cannot begin until at least $500,000 has been raised from private sources.
