HOUMA, La. (AP) - A state judge has ruled that a 52-year-old Houma man should spend the maximum sentence of 15 years in prison for severely beating his 82-year-old stepfather.

State District Judge Juan Pickett ruled on Friday that Simon Fontenot will have no chance at probation, parole or a suspended sentence for the first year, according to the Courier (https://bit.ly/1LICI9p ).

A jury convicted Fontenot July 9 of aggravated second-degree battery of Millard Molitor of Houma.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office arrested Fontenot after Molitor reported Fontenot attacked him the day before. He said his stepson beat him with a chair, threw him to the ground and started kicking him in the face.

Molitor was suffered multiple injuries, including facial fractures, the Sheriff’s Office said. He later died from complications of a stroke.
