SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - An 82-year-old Louisiana native with a love of history is being honored this weekend at LSU in Shreveport.

The university’s Department of History and Social Sciences will dedicate its new Paul Jones Library on Sunday afternoon.

The university says in a news release that Jones, an insurance agent, has donated well over 2,000 books to the department. The new library bearing his name is a closed-stacks research facility for LSU-S majors.

Department chairman Dr. Gary Joiner says Jones’ donation will aid history majors and faculty in research.

Jones donated his extensive collection of Civil War, World War II and military history books.
