WASHINGTON (AP) - Officials are investigating after a pedestrian was fatally struck by a car near the Mandarin Oriental hotel in southwest Washington.

The U.S. Park Police says the car struck the pedestrian around 8:20 p.m. Friday in the westbound lanes of Maine Avenue SW just west of the 14th Street overpass. Park Police say the pedestrian was taken to a hospital where they were pronounced dead.

Park Police say they are withholding the name of the pedestrian until family can be notified.
