SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - A northeastern Pennsylvania man who pleaded guilty to third-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend’s 10-month-old son has been sentenced to 12 to 25 years in prison.

The (Scranton) Times-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1RFiRt2 ) reports that 25-year-old Eddie Widdick apologized in Lackawanna County Court on Friday, saying he hadn’t intended to harm Silas Sorak.

He said “I pour my heart out” to the family for what he called the “incomparable anguish I’ve caused them.”

Authorities said Widdick called his girlfriend in March 2014 to say the child was having difficulty breathing but later said he dropped Sorak down a flight of steps and forcefully put him into a crib.

The child’s mother sobbed as she told the judge “I was blessed to have him, to hold him, to love him.”
