BENTONVILLE, Ark. (AP) - Benton County Prosecutor Nathan Smith says he’s asked for a special prosecutor to oversee an investigation into criminal allegations against Sheriff Kelley Cradduck.

Smith told the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1M303kd ) that he was first contacted Oct. 6 about possible wrongdoing by Cradduck and has already asked Arkansas State Police to investigate.

He said that investigation is either in the final stages or is complete and he’s now requesting that a special prosecutor from outside his office to be appointed and decide whether any charges will be filed.

Smith said he could not discuss what the allegations against the sheriff are.
