TULSA, Okla. (AP) - A Tulsa man has been convicted of first-degree murder and child abuse in the death of his girlfriend’s 19-month-old daughter.

The Tulsa World reports (https://bit.ly/1LJ8vak ) that 27-year-old Scott Allen Bolden was convicted Friday by the jury that then recommended he be sentenced to life in prison on both counts. Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 14.

Bolden was convicted of the May 2013 death of Angel Benjamin. Prosecutors say the girl had numerous bruises on her body and died of bleeding in the brain area. Defense attorneys argued the injuries were accidental.

The child’s mother - 22-year-old Heidi Marie Benjamin - is serving a 14-year prison sentence after pleading guilty last December to child neglect and permitting child abuse in the case.
