BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) - An 8-year-old student is facing charges after authorities say he pulled on a knife on a teacher.

The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reports that a teacher at the Orange Ridge-Bullock Elementary School in Bradenton, about 45 miles south of Tampa, was trying to get the boy to return to class Wednesday morning when he pulled out a small knife and threatened the teacher. The Bradenton Herald (https://goo.gl/slJJeE ) reports that deputies took the child to a juvenile detention center and charged him with aggravated assault and possession of a knife on school property.

Manatee County Superintendent Diana Greene released a statement saying the district would support the student and his family by helping them get the most appropriate help.
