OAK CREEK, Arizona (AP) - A tiny snail found along springs in Yavapai County won’t be listed under the Endangered Species Act.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said Wednesday that actions taken by the Arizona Game and Fish Department have restored much of the habitat for the Page springsnail. The agency says eight of the 10 snail populations are stable or increasing in size.

Taylor Jones of WildEarth Guardians says the group will look closely at the decision.

The snail measures one-tenth of an inch and is found along Oak Creek and Spring Creek.

It was one of more than 250 species that were candidates for federal protection. A 2011 legal settlement between WildEarth Guardians and the Fish and Wildlife Service created a timeline for a decision on whether to list them.
