WALTON, N.Y. (AP) - A 58-year-old New York man is in an upstate jail after police used a robot to break down a door at a home where he was involved in an hours-long standoff.

The Daily Star of Oneonta reports (https://bit.ly/1Me6jcL ) that police in the Delaware County village of Walton received a call Tuesday afternoon that Arthur Veprovsky was threatening his girlfriend with a rifle.

State police were called in and they responded with 15 to 20 troopers, including the agency’s Special Operations Response Team.

The woman was able to escape. State police deployed a robot Tuesday night to break down a door, and Veprovsky surrendered without resistance.

The charges against him include menacing. He’s being held Wednesday in the county jail without bail. It couldn’t be determined if he has a lawyer.
