LAS VEGAS (AP) - The editor of a northern Nevada newspaper is the new president of the Nevada Press Association.

Veteran journalist Steve Ranson, editor of the Lahontan Valley News in Fallon, was selected to serve a one-year term as president of the board of directors at the association’s conference last week.

The press association said the Reno native has lead the Fallon newspaper for the past seven years, winning more than 100 international, national and state press awards during his tenure.

His journalism resume also includes covering military issues, both as a civilian embedded with Nevada guard units in Afghanistan and as a member of the National Guard. He retired from service in 2009 with the rank of lieutenant colonel.

Ranson will replace Kirk Kern, chief operating officer of Battle Born Media.
