RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Big Stone Gap is rolling out the red carpet for the national release of a movie that bears the name of the southwest Virginia community.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe says the movie “Big Stone Gap” opens nationally on Friday. The next day, the town of Big Stone Gap will celebrate the movie’s release with a pancake breakfast, a 5K race, parade and a “red carpet block party” featuring some of the stars from the movie.

The cast includes Virginian Patrick Wilson, Ashley Judd and Whoopi Goldberg, among others.

The film is based on the novel by Adriana Trigiani, who calls the movie a “love letter” to her hometown. She wrote the screenplay for the movie and directed the film.

McAuliffe says he has seen the film and calls it inspiring.
