LEONIA, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a police sergeant investigating a car parked illegally in northern New Jersey uncovered $25,000 worth of uncut heroin.

The Record reports (https://bit.ly/1jQX8DW ) 24-year-old Shawn Downing, 27-year-old Rashad Scrivens and 19-year-old Hannah Sensel were all charged with possession of heroin with intent to distribute and related drug offenses.

Chief Thomas Rowe says Sgt. Robert Kennedy noticed a vehicle with a temporary Virginia license plate was parked illegally on Broad Avenue in Leonia around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Rowe says the sergeant noticed a small bag of marijuana in the car, prompting a search that included help from the Bergen County Sheriff’s K-9 unit.

Police say the search yielded 4.5 ounces of heroin and about $3,000 in cash.



It wasn’t immediately clear if the suspects had attorneys to comment on their behalf.
