PHOENIX (AP) - The Arizona Department of Education will use a federal grant to support new and expanding charter schools.

The $24 million federal grant announced Wednesday will be used to run a state-level competition to award money to the schools.

Arizona was awarded 20 percent of the $125 million awarded last week by the U.S. Department of Education.

The state Department of Education’s charter schools program office plans to hold a series of regional meetings to provide potential grant recipients with information on how to apply next week.
