DENVER (AP) - Police are asking residents in the suburban Denver town of Lafayette to be cautious after a bulldog was mauled to death in a backyard.

The 40- to 50-pound bulldog was killed at a home near Rothman Park on Tuesday, and the culprit has only been described as some sort of large predator. The Denver Post reports (https://goo.gl/JeXojR ) Colorado Parks and Wildlife rangers are investigating.

The park abuts a large area that has been set aside as open space.

Anyone who sees large wildlife predators in the area is asked to call Lafayette police.
