CICERO, N.Y. (AP) - A Syracuse man is accused of using an unmarked Ford Crown Victoria with emergency lights to make a traffic stop while posing as a police officer.

Salvatore McCarthy is charged with first-degree criminal impersonation. He was arrested Tuesday.

Police in the Syracuse suburb of Cicero say McCarthy was on state Route 31 at night when he pulled over another vehicle using emergency lights on his car to pose as a police officer making a traffic stop.

The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports (https://bit.ly/1OnwNtS ) the man who was pulled over recognized McCarthy and later identified him.

McCarthy’s Ford Crown Victoria has been impounded. He was issued an appearance ticket for Cicero Town Court and released.
