ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) - Rapides Parish sheriff’s deputies have arrested Forest Hill’s former town clerk.

The Town Talk reports Cheryl Cloessner was booked Tuesday with theft of greater than $500, injuring public records, four counts of filing false public records and four counts of malfeasance.

An audit by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor’s Office last year turned up several instances of improper and potentially illegal activity in the Clerk’s Office.

The audit, which was for the fiscal year that ended in June 2014, cited three separate instances where a clerk made personal charges on the village’s credit card. It also found that a clerk made an additional payment to herself “in excess of her authorized wage,” read the report.

Online jail records do not list an attorney for Cloessner.
