LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - A federal lawsuit to reverse Arkansas’ takeover of the Little Rock School District has been filed against the state and school district leaders.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (https://bit.ly/1NpigOe) reports the lawsuit was filed Wednesday on behalf of a group of parents, students and two former school board members.

The suit challenges the Jan. 28 decision by the Arkansas Board of Education to assume control of the state’s largest school district and dismiss the elected members of the school board. The suit says it’s an action to secure a solution for black students enrolled in the district who have been subjected to intentional discrimination since the district achieved desegregated status in 2007.

The takeover was a result of six of the district’s 48 schools failing to score a proficient level on state math and literacy tests over a three-year period.
