MANDAN, N.D. (AP) - A field of 17 candidates wanting to be the next police chief in Mandan has been narrowed down to four.

The Bismarck Tribune (https://bit.ly/1LkOCr6 ) reports the city is scheduling online community interviews with the four finalists before they are interviewed in person by Mandan city commissioners.

The finalists are Paul Leingang, deputy police chief of Mandan; Jason Ziegler, a lieutenant with the Osceola County Sheriff’s Department in Florida; Eric Klang, police chief in Perquot Lakes, Minnesota; and Scott Conner, county sheriff/chief of police in De Baca County in Fort Sumner, New Mexico.

Dennis Bullinger, who has been the chief of police in Mandan for eight years, is retiring Dec. 28. Bullinger has said that heavier stress loads and a heart bypass surgery four years ago factored into his decision.
