SHARPSBURG, Ga. (AP) - Police say a man recently released from state prison has been charged with raping his fiancée’s 12-year-old daughter in Coweta County.

Lt. Col. James Yarbrough said Thursday that 29-year-old Shalin Ren Payne was babysitting his fiancée’s daughter Monday while she was at work. Yarbrough says Payne allegedly threw the girl to the floor and attacked her, with her 4-year-old brother nearby.

Multiple news outlets report when the mother returned home, Yarbrough says she found Payne on top of her daughter.

Jail records show Payne was arrested by deputies after trying to run away from them wearing only a T-shirt. He is also charged with aggravated assault, sexual battery, sodomy and child molestation.

Payne is being held without bond at the Coweta jail.

He was released from state prison in April.
