BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a 54-year-old Buffalo man has pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter for an alcohol-related crash that killed a woman sitting in a chair in a community garden.

The Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced Wednesday that Rickey Mellerson pleaded guilty in Erie County Court. Prosecutors say on Aug. 23 he drove a vehicle in reverse through a parking lot and hit 46-year-old Kimberly Thompson as she sat in a garden adjacent to the lot.

Officials say Mellerson’s blood-alcohol content was .20 percent, more than twice the legal limit.

He faces a maximum prison sentence of five to 15 years when he’s sentenced Nov. 18.
