CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - A Chattanooga man has pleaded guilty to knowingly infecting his former wife with HIV, and a judge sentenced him to probation and forbade him to have any contact with the victim.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press (https://bit.ly/1FZN8SI) reports the sentenced was handed down Wednesday in Hamilton County Criminal Court to 50-year-old James T. Hutchins, who must serve four years of supervised probation.

According to court records, the victim said she married Hutchins in 2006 and later learned, after having lab work done, that she was infected with the virus. A court document says when she told Hutchins about the lab results, he left.

She called police, who arrested Hutchins and charged him with criminal exposure to HIV.
