BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to life in prison for a killing he helped commit more than 30 years ago.

Local media outlets report that 66-year-old Ronald Dunnagan was sentenced Wednesday in East Baton Rouge Parish Criminal District Court for the 1984 slaying of Crowley businessman Gary Kergan.

Dunnagan faced a trial in September on the charge after the cold case went active with the introduction of evidence in recent years from DNA testing. Dunnagan’s then-girlfriend Leila Mulla testified that she and Dunnagan killed Kergan at their Baton Rouge apartment.

Mulla says that in addition to Dunnagan being her boyfriend, he was also her pimp and she was a prostitute. She says Kergan was one of her patrons, and that she and Dunnagan killed him for his money.
