WASHINGTON (AP) - The mayor’s office says a staffer in the mayor’s religious affairs division is on administrative leave after his arrest on drug charges.

Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office announced Wednesday that it has begun the process of terminating 51-year-old Lorenzo Sanders, who was ordered to remain in jail after his arrest Tuesday.

Charging documents show that members of a SWAT team and U.S. Park Police narcotics unit raided Sanders’ apartment Tuesday and found two clear sandwich bags of cocaine in his toilet and suspected crack cocaine and heroin. Police also found a digital scale and drug paraphernalia.

Court records show Sanders pleaded guilty to selling heroin in 1985 and was sentenced to 54 months in jail.
