JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Most City of Jackson offices will be closed Friday, Oct. 16, for a previously announced, budget-required furlough day for city employees.

The closure affects all city offices with the exception of police, fire and, in cases of emergency, the Department of Public Works.

The City Clerk’s Office also will be closed.

The city, in a news release Thursday, reminded the public about the once-monthly furlough days that are planned for the next two years as a way of saving nearly $5 million for the state’s general fund. It was one of several measures adopted in the current fiscal year’s budget to address a decline in revenue.

The furloughs impact about 2,200 full-time employees.
