ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York state and Facebook are forming a new partnership to fight online sex trafficking.

The collaboration announced Thursday by Attorney General Eric Schneiderman will involve the use of computer analysis, image recognition software and other data to identify victims used in online advertisements for commercial sex. Schneiderman’s office will then use the information to track down and prosecute sex traffickers.

Schneiderman says the partnership opens up “a new front” in the fight to combat online sex trafficking.

It’s not the first time the state’s top prosecutor and the social media company have teamed up. Earlier this year Schneiderman and Facebook announced an joint initiative in which Amber Alerts are automatically sent to the Facebook feeds of users in an area where a missing child is believed to be located.
