ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A New York man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison for beating his baby daughter so severely that she is not expected to ever walk or talk.

Monroe County District Attorney Sandra Doorley says 26-year-old Nikey Hall assaulted the 1-year-old in his Rochester home on Jan. 5, causing permanent brain injuries.

A jury convicted him of first-degree assault in September. He was sentenced on Wednesday.

Family members of the victim say Hall told police that his daughter fell down two flights of stairs.
