COMPTON, Calif. (AP) - A small plane has crashed in a Los Angeles-area backyard, injuring the pilot.

Compton fire officials say the single-engine plane took off from Compton/Woodley Airport around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday but its engine failed a few minutes later.

The pilot made an emergency landing in the backyard of a home on Reeve Street.

The plane’s wings broke off but the aircraft missed a home. There was no fire and nobody on the ground was hurt.

The pilot was taken to a hospital for treatment of a deep cut over one eye.
