SAN DIEGO (AP) - A Southern California woman who claimed she accidentally shot her husband during an argument in their bedroom has been convicted of second-degree murder.

The San Diego Union-Tribune (https://bit.ly/1PkllhS ) says Julie Harper was found guilty Thursday during her second trial. She’s facing 40 years to life in prison.

The Carlsbad woman killed Jason Harper three years ago.

Harper testified that her husband, a popular teacher at Carlsbad High School, abused her for years and confronted her after she announced she’d filed for divorce.

Harper said she fired the gun by accident as he rushed at her.

But prosecutors say he was shot from behind. They also noted Harper failed to call 911, fled the home and hid the gun.

Last year, another jury acquitted Harper of first-degree murder.
