CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A forum to discuss social justice and the relationship between law enforcement and the public is scheduled for Charleston.

The Thursday evening form is being hosted by state Sen. Marlon Kimpson, a Charleston Democrat, and Charleston County Sheriff Al Cannon.

The forum also features former federal prosecutor and New York City attorney Quentin Williams as well as Nicole Porter, who is the advocacy director of The Sentencing Project, a Washington group working to reform sentencing policies and find alternatives to prison for offenders.

The local forum is an outgrowth of President Barack Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing. The task force was created to work to build trust between law officers and citizens around the country.
