NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Tulane University associate professor Yu-Ping Wang is part of a team researching adolescent brain functions that could predict mental illnesses such as autism and attention-deficit hyperactive disorder.

Along with researchers at the University of New Mexico and the University of Nebraska medical School, Wang will explore brain functions of children between 9 and 15 years old.

New Orleans CityBusiness reports (https://bit.ly/1j8cSlk) the research is part of a $5.9 million grant from the National Science Foundation and part of an initiative to expand science and engineering in states that have historically been underfunded by the foundation.
