SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Police say they have arrested one of the most wanted fugitives in the Salt Lake City metro with the help of a K-9 officer.

Unified Police Lt. Lex Bell says police tracked down 24-year-old Stephen Hammer at a West Valley City mobile home on Wednesday, where the fugitive refused to answer the door until the police dog barked.

Bell says Hammer earned a place on the Salt Lake Metro Gang Unit’s “Most Wanted” list in August. He’s accused of pointing a gun at security guards while trying to steal from a Macy’s store, then leaving in a stolen pickup truck.

According to Bell, Hammer has been on a crime spree all summer. He is suspected of burglarizing homes, stealing guns and vehicles, and trading the stolen guns for drugs.
