BETHEL, Vt. (AP) - Vermont state police cited a school bus driver for driving under the influence of alcohol after a high school principal alerted them just after 8 a.m. Thursday.

Police say there were no students on the bus at the time.

Authorities cited 34-year-old Brett Jenkinson of Northfield with DUI while operating a school bus.

Police say the principal of Whitcomb High School in Bethel called Thursday morning to report his suspicions that Jenkinson was drunk.

Principal Owen Bradley told them Jenkinson is a contract driver for the First Student bus company.

Jenkinson is due to appeal in Windsor County Superior Court Oct. 27.

No listing for Jenkinson could be found. He did not immediately respond to a phone message left with his father.
