NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - Officials say a 39-year-old woman has been convicted of murder in the fatal shooting of her ex-boyfriend inside a Connecticut motel room.

Alanna Carey said she shot 44-year-old Edward Landry on Jan. 2, 2012 multiple times in self-defense inside a Newington motel. She testified that she was afraid of Landry, who had several knives in the room and was allegedly a member of a motorcycle gang. She pleaded not guilty to murder.

Carey admitted on the stand that she moved the knife twice before police arrived.

The court clerk’s office says a Superior Court jury in New Britain found Carey guilty of murder Wednesday. She is scheduled to be sentenced on Dec. 11 and faces a sentence of up to 60 years in prison.

Landry’s family declined comment.
