ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - The Alexandria Transit Company will pay $4.5 million in damages to a woman who was hit by an Alexandria DASH bus last year.

Fifty-five-year-old Sherry Galloway says she was struck in 2014 while crossing a crosswalk outside the King Street Metro station. According to her lawyer, she was pinned under the bus for about a minute until the driver, 52-year-old Seblewongel Z. D’Arcy, backed the bus off her.

The lawsuit accused ATC of being negligent after allowing the driver to continue driving even though she had four other accidents on her record.

Court filings say Galloway suffered numerous injuries to her legs and head and required multiple surgeries.

WJLA-TV (https://bit.ly/1RvLrOe) reports ATC is appealing the decision and a hearing is scheduled for later this month.
