BOONE, N.C. (AP) - Appalachian State’s board of trustees has approved a five-year contract for third-year football coach Scott Satterfield.

The five-year deal runs through Dec. 31, 2020. Financial terms of the contract weren’t released Friday.

Satterfield joined the school in December 2012 and has guided the Mountaineers through the transition from NCAA Division I FCS to Division I FBS, the highest level of college football.

The Mountaineers are 3-1 this season. They finished 4-8 in Satterfield’s first season in 2013 and were 7-5 last season after a 1-5 start.
