BEATRICE, Neb. (AP) - Beatrice’s mayor is considering ideas for new uses for a vacant hospital building in town.

Mayor Stan Wirth tells the Beatrice Daily Sun (https://bit.ly/1jfrgZC ) that the old Beatrice Community Hospital could be repurposed to serve veterans and that he wants to put together a task force to look at ideas.

Wirth says the hospital, which has been vacant for three years, could house a veterans’ service that could be staffed by local clinicians, physicians and doctors to provide outpatient care.

Wirth says he has met with Southeast Community College to assist with training for veterans. He plans to work with the Gage County Veterans Service Office, state officials and U.S. Sen. Deb Fischer’s office on the prospect of making use of the former hospital.
