COBURG, Ore. (AP) - Oregon officials say an escaped bull or cow was shot and killed by its owner after it got loose and wandered onto Interstate 5.

The Register-Guard (https://bit.ly/1FWpQNO ) that the Oregon Department of Transportation says the owner killed the bovine after unsuccessful efforts to capture it.

The department says the animal escaped a field and ran about two miles along the highway before it was shot.

Alaska resident Terry Smith saw the escape and says two farm workers on ATVs tried to turn the animal around and keep it away from cars. But he says the cow was resistant and stayed near the highway shoulder.
