LE MARS, Iowa (AP) - A former Remsen-Union Community School teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with a student has pleaded not guilty.

The Sioux City Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1Mi0zKt ) that 24-year-old Samantha Kohls, of Cedar Falls, entered a written plea Thursday in Plymouth County District Court to two counts of sexual exploitation by a school employee.

The Remsen Police Department and Plymouth County Sheriff’s Office began a joint investigation in the case in April.

Arrest affidavits say Kohls had sex with a 17-year-old male student while Kohls was a teacher at the school. The documents say the sexual encounters happened at her apartment in 2014.
