DETROIT (AP) - A suburban Detroit law firm has donated 500 smoke alarms to the Detroit Fire Department intended for distribution to residents.

Farmington Hills-based Fabian, Sklar & King made the donation Thursday at the department’s Engine 27 on Fort Street. The firm has donated 3,000 alarms to Detroit during the past six years.

The alarms will be available for free to residents and firefighters will help install them.

The donation coincides with National Fire Prevention Month.
