MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A Flaxton man has been sentenced to spend five years in prison after pleading guilty to raping a girl in Burke County.

Michael Hardaway will begin serving the time after finishing another five-year sentence for providing methamphetamine to the girl. He started serving that sentence in May after pleading guilty to endangering a child.

Hardaway is in his early 40s. Prosecutors say he had sex with the girl in April 2013. He could have faced life in prison under the initial charge against him. Prosecutors say they offered a plea deal to avoid putting the victim through a trial.

With credit for time served, Hardaway will serve about 10 years in prison before he’s eligible to be released.
