LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The University of Louisiana at Lafayette opens Sun Belt Conference play Saturday night against Texas State without starting cornerback Troy McCollum, who sprained an ankle in last week’s loss at Louisiana Tech.

The Advertiser reports (https://bit.ly/1RyqK4e ) Coach Mark Hudspeth said Savion Brown will start in McCollum’s place opposite of usual cornerback starter Jevante Watson.

But Hudspeth said Thursday that McCollum should be 100 percent when the 1-3 Cajuns play Oct. 20 at Arkansas State.

Brown, a Fair Park High product from Shreveport, is in his first season at Louisiana-Lafayette after transferring from Tyler (Texas) Junior College.

Hudspeth says backup cornerbacks will be Jeryl Brazil, who played extensively when McCollum was injured, and Dominick Jones.
