JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) - Arkansas’ Department of Human Services is being sued for allegedly delaying a woman’s application for coverage under the state’s “private option” that uses federal money to help buy private insurance for some residents.

Legal Aid of Arkansas attorney Kevin De Liban said Friday that Anita Walker has been waiting 10-months for coverage for a shoulder injury that threatens her health and her job and that she just wants to be accepted into the program.

A DHS spokeswoman did not immediately return a phone call for comment.

De Liban says Walker applied for the private option in November and was notified by DHS that she may be eligible, then later was told there was no record of her application. He says Walker applied again in January and received the same information.
