MACON, Ga. (AP) - A Macon woman who has been charged in the shooting death of her boyfriend says she killed the man out of self-defense.

The Macon Telegraph (https://bit.ly/1N34j5u ) reports that attorney Cheryl Milton said during a Bibb County Superior Court hearing on Thursday that her client, 45-year-old Donna Jackson, feared for her life when she shot 53-year-old Ricky Smith on Sept. 5.

Jackson says she called 911 that night after Smith grabbed two knives and chased her inside her home. She says she shot Smith once because he had lunged at her with a knife in each hand.

Prosecutor Larissa Olliverre said Jackson’s statements to the 911 dispatcher are inconsistent with what Jackson has said since then.

Jackson was charged with murder and has been held at the county jail without bond.
