PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Police say a 62-year-old man was stabbed more than 20 times during a possible robbery attempt at an auto shop he operates in southwest Philadelphia.

Police say it happened shortly before 6 p.m. Thursday near 63rd Street.

Lt. John Walker says surveillance cameras captured a man walking into the store. There was no video inside the shop, but Walker says there was a bloody, violent struggle inside. The victim, Patrick Spinosa, was stabbed more than 20 times in the head, back and arms.

He was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center where police say he is in critical condition.

Authorities are investigating.
