SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP) - Police are investigating after students became sick at a South Kingstown private school where edible marijuana was distributed.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1VK5LvN ) that police seized a portion of the suspected marijuana, which will be tested by the Rhode Island Health Department.

The incident Thursday at The Prout School is being investigated and criminal charges have not yet been filed.

David Estes, head of school, said several students became ill upon eating a food item that was brought in by a student or students from outside the Catholic high school.

South Kingstown police say school administrators alerted police that a student went home sick after ingesting a food product. Police learned that a rescue crew responded to another report of a student with an unidentified reaction to an edible item.
