BAYONNE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say police shot and killed a pit bull after it attacked a young girl and left four people hurt on a street in northern New Jersey.

Police in Bayonne said the dog attacked Friday morning and left four people with minor injuries. Police responding to the scene shot the dog.

Neighborhood resident Avery Jefferson told The Jersey Journal (https://bit.ly/1jToLMJ ) that he saw the dog attack a young girl as she was getting ready to board a school bus.

Three people including the school bus assistant, the girl’s guardian and the dog’s owner struggled to pull the animal off her before police arrived.
