HOUSTON (AP) - A man is accused of driving down a Houston freeway with his pregnant ex-girlfriend clinging to the windshield.

A Houston Police Department spokesman said 33-year-old Anthony Escobedo went to the motel room of his ex-girlfriend Wednesday, and took the keys to a vehicle that she had borrowed.

Police say the 31-year-old woman confronted him, but he refused to exit the car so she clung to the windshield wipers to prevent him from leaving.

Police say Escobedo drove on the Gulf Freeway for almost a mile until the woman fell from the vehicle. She was taken to a hospital for treatment of scrapes and cuts on her hands and feet. Her unborn baby was not injured.

The suspect was later arrested and charged with assault of a family member. It wasn’t immediately clear if he has an attorney.
